Only mothers who have been through childbirth understand what this painful feeling is.
If someone wants to ask, " What are you most afraid of during pregnancy and childbirth ?" My answer was “ I am most afraid of the pain of childbirth ”. Reading the confided lines of mothers after facing childbirth , I really admire her courage.
How painful is childbirth? It hurts so much that I just want to pass out for a few minutes!
Mother 1: "The pain is beyond my imagination, I just want to bang my head against the wall to forget the pain, or hope someone takes a knife to make a quick cut in the abdomen so that the baby can be born quickly. It's really too painful and I just want to pass out. in a few minutes".
Mother 2: "I was in pain all day and night, and then my neck opened. The pain was so terrible that I just wanted to scratch my head and pull my hair. At that time, there was only a little sanity left saying that never give up".
Mother 3: "Pain to the point of convulsion, pain to the point of exploding fireflies in the eyes".
Mother 4: "I was in pain giving birth for three days and four nights, the cervix of the first child was opened slowly, the pain was so bad that I wanted to bang my head against the wall. It was really not easy after giving birth, the perineal incision was still broken. life stage".
It can be compared to the painful process of giving birth of mothers at the level of wanting to scratch their heads and pull their hair to only level three, the pain that feels like being beaten with a stick is the fifth degree, the pain that feels like disability preparation is level eight, and childbirth is level ten.
In fact, the entire birthing process is usually divided into the following stages:
- The first stage is the opening of the cervix.
- The second stage is the birth of the baby.
- The third stage is placental abruption.
These are the three stages of a normal birth. Of these three stages, the first takes the longest and the third takes the shortest. Different stages will have different pain levels.
1. Cervical opening stage
Cervical dilation refers to the opening of the uterus, the fetus cannot be born until the cervix has dilated 7-10 centimeters. The time it takes for each mother to go through this process is different, women giving birth for the first time take about 12-16 hours longer, women giving birth for the first time about 6-8 hours.
During this process, not all pain is equal, but the pain becomes more intense as the mouth of the uterus opens.
The first pain can be like menstrual cramps, aching, swelling, very uncomfortable.
When the cervix is dilated from 5-6 cm , the pain is more intense, like a blunt knife cutting meat, and the feeling of wanting to go to the bathroom, but when going to the toilet is not able to go.
In the final stage , not only the abdomen is painful, but the lumbar and related back areas are also painful, the waist feels like it is broken, the internal organs are painful, the pain makes the whole person numb.
2. Baby's birth stage
At this stage, different mothers need different time, this is related to the mother's health and the size of the fetal apex diameter. For women who have given birth, the time of birth will be shorter, basically an hour, for women who have not given birth, the time is longer, usually about 2 hours.
This stage is not easy, although it is not long, the pain has reached its peak, because the baby from the process of being born in the birth canal, needs the mother's contraction force, this stage gives the mother a feeling of numbing pain.
3. The stage of giving birth to the placenta
After giving birth, under normal circumstances, the placenta will automatically push out, then the mother will be observed in the delivery room for 2 hours, if there is no abnormality, she can return to the department.
But if the placenta cannot move out on its own after giving birth, the mother will have to experience the final pain of removing the placenta. This is also a painful obsession during childbirth.
4. The stage of suturing the wound
As mentioned before, when the baby is born, the perineum can be torn, if there is a wound, after birth there will be a process of "stitching", this time stitching the wound without the use of anesthetic. But compared to the pain of childbirth, this pain is basically something that the mother can bear, because the mother has experienced terrible pain before.
If compared to your imagination, normally being pierced by a needle will be very painful, but at this stage, the wound is sutured without anesthetic, you can imagine how painful it is to give birth. child.
