The current generation of Dodge Challengers is wrapping up with future generations set to be electric vehicles. Good news is, if you’ve been wanting a convertible Challenger, you’re in luck. Dodge is sending the Challenger off with a convertible variant, which many fans have been clamoring for.
Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustang convertibles have been available for many years. Yet despite its 14 year lifespan, the Dodge Challenger remained a hardtop-only up until now. That said, the Dodge Challengers won’t be rolling off assembly lines as convertibles. Instead, Dodge is working with Drop Top Customs in Florida to make the convertible Challenger a reality.
Making a convertible requires a lot more than simply chopping the roof off of the car. These days, roofs provide much of the structural integrity for any given vehicle. This integrity keeps not only the roof from flexing but also much of the rest of the car. Often, additional support needs to be built into the vehicle after the roof is removed.
Exact pricing for the convertible variant isn’t yet known but getting a custom convertible typically costs $26,000 on up, not including the base price to buy the vehicle in the first place, of course.
Besides the Challenger, the Dodge Charger is also being retired. Dodge is putting together some special “Last Call” editions to give both cars a proper send off. As of now, Dodge is planning to relaunch the Challenger and Charger models, but they’re set to be electric vehicles.
