If you’re a true gearhead, you’ll know just how special the Ferrari 275 GTB/4 really is.
You’ll also know how much one would fetch if it went to auction, too.
Just imagine if it was owned by the late, great actor Steve McQueen.
Well, that’s exactly what’s happening.
A Ferrari 275 GTB/4 formerly owned by the man himself is set to go under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s in Monterrey this summer.
Steve McQueen had a stable full of Prancing Horses, including a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso which was his daily driver.
He was the proud owner of a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4, too.
The King of Cool took delivery of the long-nosed classic back in the late ‘60s.
While it’s considered by many to be the quintessential coupé, the front-engined Ferrari 275 GTB/4 is somewhat of a rule breaker.
Unlike the original 275 line, which was designed by Pininfarina, it actually featured bodywork by Carrozzeria Scaglietti.
It also came equipped with a four-cam, 3.3-liter Colombo V12 engine instead of the two-cam configuration of its predecessors.
That drivetrain put out 300 horsepower and could achieve a top speed of 166.5 mph (267 km/h).
Not only that, but the 275 GTB/4 is a rare beast, too, with only 280 examples being produced from 1966 through ‘68.
Originally finished in gold metallic paint, McQueen chose to have the car resprayed in Chianti Red.
He also had it fitted with the wheels and wing mirror from his convertible 275 GTB/4, which he had previously crashed.
According to the auction house, McQueen owned the delectable Ferrari for four years.
Following his ownership, the car changed hands multiple times, before it ended up with a retired Australian racer in the 2000s.
During his ownership, he had the car meticulously restored to McQueen’s specifications by Ferrari Classiche over a three-year period.
The Ferrari 275 GTB/4 has been exhibited at various locations, including the famous Museo Ferrari in Maranello, Italy, and the Petersen Automotive Museum in California.
It’s even been shown at the Villa d’Esta Concorso d’Eleganza in Lake Como, Italy.

It’s estimated that the Ferrari 275 GTB/4 will fetch between $5 million and $7 million when it goes to auction on August 18 and 19.
This isn’t the first time the car has gone under the hammer, though.
The 275 GTB/4 most recently sold for a staggering $10 million at RM Sotheby’s flagship Monterrey sale in August 2014.
