Her parents decided to travel 6,000 miles to assist her when she was only eight months old.
"In 2019, after her parents consented to a groundbreaking surgery, Luna Tavares Fenner traveled to Russia, but visa issues forced her to return to the United States weeks before her final operation. She has an uncommon skin condition that causes dark pigmentation to cover portions of her visage.
She had been undergoing treatment in the city of Krasnodar in the Russian federal subject of Krasnodar Krai for giant congenital melanocytic nevus (GCMN), a form of skin disorder.
The condition affects only 1.5% of the world's population and increases the risk of developing melanoma in those affected. Doctors required six days to diagnose Luna's condition following her March 2019 birth."
"Carol stated, 'I was completely stunned. No one in the room knew what the condition was when Luna was born. My final prenatal ultrasound had not disclosed any abnormalities. I have also received a great deal of encouragement and compliments on Luna's beauty. It makes me joyful when people say she resembles the superhero Batman or a butterfly. Luna is doing very well. Many new discoveries... attempting to walk, dance, and imitating everything I do...'
A Russian surgeon contacted her parents two years ago to offer assistance. However, disappointment ensued when their visa expired and they were required to return to the United States.
"The final operation was postponed and they were compelled to return home. Now they must endure an agonizing delay to learn when they can return for the girl's final surgery.
Carol, the girls' mother, posted on Instagram that they were required to return home. She stated, "We had three days to purchase a plane ticket and return to the United States because our visa expired yesterday." I believed we would be able to complete all of the operations, but no. Now it is time to await the return of the Russian consulate's authorization.
Due to the fact that Luna's nevus has grown into her eyebrows and will need to be removed, the physicians have declared that the situation is complicated. However, they confirmed that the problems are transient and that Luna will return for the concluding procedures."
Luna was born with a congenital melanocytic nevus, a rare form of skin disorder, in South Florida, United States. The condition caused her to be born with a dark birthmark on her face, earning her the moniker 'Batgirl'
Doctors in the United States had previously informed Carol that removing the mark would require a series of approximately 100 high-risk laser interventions.
