Touched by the special surgery to welcome a newborn baby from a mother with terminal cancer

When she learned that she was suffering from terminal cancer, Lisa made a brave decision, which was to stop treatment for the disease to keep her child in her womb and this afternoon, May 22, the child greeted the baby at Hospital

On the afternoon of May 22, in a hospital room filled with mixed emotions, Lisa gave birth to a beautiful baby. The air was thick with both joy and sadness, as the new life brought hope and happiness, while the knowledge of Lisa's limited time weighed heavily on everyone's hearts.

Lisa's story is one of incredible courage and selflessness. When she received the devastating news that she had terminal cancer, she faced a difficult decision. Despite the urgency of her treatment, Lisa chose to prioritize the life growing inside her womb and made the brave decision to forgo further medical intervention.

As the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, Lisa's unwavering determination became apparent. She endured the physical and emotional challenges of her illness, all the while nurturing and protecting the precious life within her. Her love for her child was unwavering, and she was willing to sacrifice her own well-being to give her child the chance at life.

The most difficult thing with the surgery for Lisa is the risk of uterine atony and bleeding during surgery, then the whole uterus may have to be removed to save the mother

Precious time with both mother and child

When she arrived at the hospital, her illness was already in its late stage, and she was pregnant. The doctor asked the family if they wanted to keep the baby or not. Keeping the baby posed risks for both the mother and the child, as she needed to make the most of each day to receive treatment, treating the disease as early as possible. Not to mention that the pregnancy stage weakened her immune system, allowing the illness to progress faster.

However, as a mother, looking at her unborn child already taking shape in the fifth month, Lisa desired to keep her baby. She wished to hold onto every additional day in her womb, believing that each day mattered. The days and months of being pregnant while undergoing treatment were incredibly challenging for her. She experienced constant nausea, loss of appetite, difficulty breathing, and her health gradually deteriorated.

Despite the challenges, it seemed that the unborn baby understood the difficulties their mother was facing and continued to grow each day. The couple, hopeful for the baby's safe arrival, wished for the opportunity to treat the mother after the baby was born. Over the past two months, the doctors at the hospital have made daily efforts, hoping to keep the baby in the mother's womb a little longer so that Lisa could continue receiving treatment.

Wishing for peace

When the baby was born, they cried loudly and weighed approximately 1.6 kg. They were immediately taken by an ambulance to the Neonatal Care and Treatment Center at the Maternity Hospital.

The cesarean section lasted about 10 minutes, performed by a team of experts including anesthesiologists, along with a team of eight doctors and midwives from the Central Maternity Hospital, supported by several doctors from the other hospital.

Due to being born prematurely, baby  required special care.

Family, friends, and the medical staff surrounded Lisa and her newborn with love and support, celebrating the arrival of this precious life. It was a bittersweet moment, as they rejoiced in the miracle of birth while grieving the impending loss of Lisa.

After 20 days, the mother was able to hold her baby in her arms for the first time.

Through her brave decision and the birth of her child, Lisa's legacy would live on. Her unwavering love and sacrifice would be forever etched in the hearts of those who witnessed her incredible journey. And as her child grew and flourished, they would carry with them the indomitable spirit and strength that their mother had shown.

Lisa's story serves as a powerful reminder of the depth of a mother's love and the lengths she would go to protect her child. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of hope in the face of adversity. And while her time may have been limited, Lisa's impact would continue to touch the lives of those who knew her and the child she brought into the world.
